5 Lies People tell About Hallucinogenic Mushrooms

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, hallucinogenic mushrooms are psilocybin mushrooms, a specific class of mushrooms that produce hallucinations when taken internally. Unfortunately, many of the things that people say about hallucinogenic mushrooms are half truths or downright lies. There are quite a few of these half truths and lies when it comes to these mushrooms. If you are taking psilocybin mushrooms, it is important to know the difference between the lies that people tell and the truth.

Hallucinogenic Mushrooms are Perfectly Safe

This is one of the more dangerous lies about these mushrooms. Although the type of mushroom that produces hallucinations will not kill you, there are two things that they do not mention. The first is that these mushrooms are toxic and that is part of the reason why they produce hallucinations. They make most people who take them vomit and suffer from other types of stomach upset.

The second is that these mushrooms are particularly hard to identify. They look similar to many other times of mushrooms and most wild mushrooms are toxic. Some of the mushrooms that resemble psilocybin mushrooms are extremely toxic and can kill you.

Although the specific hallucinogenic mushroom might not cause permanent harm, they cause illness and are easily mistaken for toxic mushrooms.

Hallucinogenic Mushrooms Stop Fear and Anxiety

About Hallucinogenic Mushrooms

Hallucinogenic mushrooms can actually make you more anxious, contrary to popular belief.

Again, this is a half truth. Although it is possible that people who take these mushrooms feel less anxious after they take them, there are people who react the opposite way. They feel more anxious after they take the mushrooms.

There are No Negative Consequences of taking Magic Mushrooms

This is simply not true. The negative consequences of taking them can range from having a negative experience to being permanently disabled by them. Some people have extreme negative experiences while taking these mushrooms. These negative experiences can live with you for a long time after the hallucinogenic trip has ended.

You Cannot be Trapped Inside a Hallucinogenic Experience

This is another outright lie. Although it is rare there is a disorder called Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder. This condition is characterized by the inability to stop hallucinating. Essentially leaving the person trapped in the hallucinogenic experience. There is very little treatment for this disorder and many people who suffer from it have to simply learn to live with the problems that it brings.

Hallucinogenic Mushrooms are not Addictive

Again this only a partial truth, the mushrooms are not usually physically addictive but the user can end up with either a psychological addiction or a behavioral addiction. Just because these mushrooms do not cause a physical dependence does not make them not addictive. The addiction is of the mind rather than of the body. This is an extremely difficult addiction to break.
