Dangerous Hallucinogens Effects on the Psyche
What Hallucinogens do to a Person?
Hallucinogens affect the chemicals in a person’s brain, particularly the reward system and serotonin, which causes a person to have hallucinations when they are using the drug. The most common hallucinogen that people take is LSD.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, hallucinogens will cause people who use them to feel sensations and see images and hear sounds, which seem real but do not really exist. Hallucinogens may also produce rapid and intense emotional swings in a person who is using them.
The effects of LSD and other hallucinogens can last for multiple hours at a time, which can be an extremely bad experience for a person who is having frightening or violent hallucinations. Hallucinogenic drugs may cause a person to loose sense of their identity and can mix up their thinking patterns so badly that they begin to have their senses mixed up. For example a person start to hear colors and see sounds.
Hallucinogens are dangerous for a person to take because the user will not be able to predict what type of hallucinations they will have when taking the drug, and some people completely lose control and commit acts of violence or harm themselves when they are under the influence of hallucinogens.
The Dangers of Hallucinogens Effects on the Human Psyche
There are numerous dangers that come from a person using hallucinogens, but the effects of hallucinogens on the human psyche are the most dangerous aspect of using hallucinogens. The way hallucinogens work is by disrupting the chemical makeup of a user’s brain. Although some people may experience pleasant and happy hallucinations when using a hallucinogenic drug other people experience extremely terrifying hallucinations, which they may react to violently. For example one person may see pink bunnies in a field of lavender, while other people may see monsters trying to attack them. These hallucinations can last for hours and a person will not be able to stop them once they start.
Once a person comes off from the effects of hallucinogens, their brain chemicals will be depleted which can cause their moods to change rapidly and they may feel depressed or angry for days. Hallucinogens significantly impact the human psyche which can lead to permanent brain damage if a person continues to abuse hallucinogens for long periods of time. A person addicted to hallucinogens should seek out help from an addiction treatment center so that they can receive the proper resources they need to triumph their addiction.
